LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Thursday imposed a challan on Rs 25,000 on private school in Sarabha Nagar for burning garbage in Sidhwan canal.
The school staff and students were caught burning garbage during a cleanliness drive organised by the school inside the canal near BRS Nagar canal bridge on Thursday.
LMC commissioner Shena Aggarwal stated that burning garbage is an illegal activity and National Green Tribunal (NGT) has also taken strict note of the same in the past.

A challan of Rs 25,000 has been issued in the name of school principal as per the solid waste management and sanitation bylaws, she added.
The civic body officials also informed the irrigation department about the incident.
